I tend to say 'ya, shuurrre' and 'you betcha' quite a bit, but not usually combined. 'Oofda' is still best!

I do it a lot more now that I'm older than I did when younger....probably has something to do w/marrying up w/a full blood Norsky and then later moving to an area w/a lot of that background???????????

I was born & raised in central MN (more a German area) & hubby in NW MN (in a Norwegian area). He dosn't have much of an accent unless he's joking around but a lot of his relatives have a thick accent. I have picked that up.

This. I thought it was a myth until I moved up here. Everyone says it, whether they realize it or not. Now I say it all the time. Oh Yaaaaaaaa.

I grew up in north central North Dakota, and when I moved to Fargo a lot of people commented on my "Minnesota accent".

A few of the details that often get missed:

'Z' often becomes 'S' in certain words.

'Th' often becomes either 't' or 'd' in some words.

'Thr' often becomes 'tr' or else the 'r' is rolled.

Dunno how prevalent this is in some parts of MN, but when I stop at a gas station, I "put on gas", or "put gas on the car".

Uff Da, Ish Da, and Fy Da.

Uff Da: When you lose your gum in the chicken coop.

Ish Da: When you lose your gum in the chicken coop, find it, and start chewing it again.

Fy Da: When you lose your gum in the chicken coop and think you've found it three times.

Another one is ending sentences with the word "then".

"How's it going then?"

"We're going to drive over there then."

"What's he doing now then?"
