My husband and a friend are keeping our yearly tradition of visiting a new area to celebrate Thanksgiving and this year it's MN. We are all 35 years old, no kids and like outdoor activities as well as long nights at the pub meeting new people and maybe watching a game. We'll be flying in to the Twin Cities. Any suggestions where we can maybe have it all-meaning fun nightlife and quiet day activities-cross country skiing or dogsledding? We'll have a car but don't really want to drive more than 3 hours away from the Cities. Thanks!!

Well, there is no guarantee there will be snow on Thanksgiving and you would have to drive a lot more then 3 hours to find dogsledding but there are plenty of Cross Country trails around.

The first thing that comes to mind is Stillwater (east of St. Paul). They have a pretty busy downtown for a town it's size and it is close to some nice state parks for CC skiing. It isn't too far to drive into Minneapolis for a more active night life if you want.

Try Ely, MN. It is a bit further than 3 hrs from The Cities, but I think it has what you are looking for. Lots of outdoor activities if you plan your trip ahead of time. There likely might even be snow. (lol)

Plus, they have some big To Do on Thanksgiving. I hear it is really quite nice.

Just don't mention the failed bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics...they're kinda touchy about it.

Did you forget that Chicago (in Illinois) lost the bid for the Olympics?

My best suggestion for you is to rent a car and head up to Duluth, to check out Lake Superior, Jay Cooke State Park, there's a better chance you'll find snow there than in the Twin Cities and the nature aspect is arguably better there.
