I have to kind of laugh at this. Many people think midwesterners stay indoors for 6 months because if winter. I don't think so. Sure there are those freezing cold days where you have to but it's not all the time for 6 months!!!!

For the most part we stay inside from December till March. I mean we'll try to get out to a public rink and go ice skating or maybe go skiing once but yeah, overall we hate the cold. If we need to get out and walk around we go to the Mall of America. Yep, my wife and I are mall rats.

The only time I stay exclusively inside is when its around ten below or colder (which probably happens for what, seven days out of the year???). Otherwise, I don't mind being active outdoors skiing or skating. When it gets to 15 or above, my wife and I will sometimes walk around one of the lakes.

No, we have skiing, skating, snowmobiling, sledding, ice fishing, cross country skiing, and snowboarding in the winter not to mention shoveling snow. We've even had tailgate picnics at the beach. Lake Michigan can be beautiful in the winter.

ETA: Oops, I thought I was in the Michigan forum but I'm sure it's the same in Minnesota as we have here.

I actually stay inside for about about seven months of the year because it's too cold for me. Unfortunately I have some health issues that are aggravated by the cold, so I avoid it. So when I hear people say Midwesterners stay indoors six months a year I can relate to that, but realize that this isn't true for everyone.
