Yes, I was going to suggest contacting the employer also to see if they had any suggestions. When I first got hired by Mayo, they sent a brochure of all the apt complexes in town, altho' they really didn't give any guidance about whether any were "run down" etc.

I think both the 3rd Ave Lofts, mentioned by Satris, and the 2nd Street Villas, mentioned by Levcheos, are both in good areas. I've walked by the 2nd Street Villas dozens of times and while I can't speak to their quality on the inside, they are certainly in a great area, on a main thoroughfare in easy (and safe) walking distance of downtown.
