Be prepared for flocks of mosquitoes so big you'll hear the forest start to buzz as the sun goes down. Also, bring a wide range of clothes from shorts and T-shirts to sweaters/jackets/warm shoes. From May to August you'll encounter anything from mid-30s to low 90s. Finally, be prepared to be over an hour from all but the most basic services and amenities -- probably not a foreign concept for a New Mexican.

Stay out of the woods during hunting season. You might get poached.

Bring your sence of humor! Minnesotans have a great sence of humor and love to laugh! Please don't watch Fargo before you come, but Grumpy old men is OK. If you love nature and beauty it will be a 4 month vacation for you whether you hunt or fish or not. Bring your bear and mosquito repellant. Not sure which ones are bigger?

I live in Hibbing and I don't know if the poster that says:
"Finally, be prepared to be over an hour from all but the most basic services and amenities"
Hibbing is one of the regional headquarters for a hospital and has Wal-mart, Lowes, and JCPennys also there are grocery stores so I'm pretty sure the basic services and amenities are taken care of.
Other than that if your on the range we have an equal number of bars to churches so be prepared. Also, the population is aging and declining. That's about all.

And whatever you can't find in Hibbing, you can more than likely find in Grand Rapids or Virginia, both not that far from Hibbing.

If you like nature and like to hike you will love it. Check out the Mesabi trail. Plus all the cross country skiing trails you can hike. Maybe you'll get lucky and see wildlife.

I think Minnestota is the origin of the story about the guy fishing at the stream and he hears two mosquitoes talking.
One says, "Should we eat him here or should we drag back in the bush?"
The other one says, "We better drag him back in the bush or the big boys will come along and take him away from us."
