When I lived in small town Southern Minnesota years ago one of my complaints about the State was the terrible mosquitoes, gnats and other flying bugs. It was nearly impossible to be outside from April to August due to the bugs.

Has the flying bug problem improved in Minnesota?

Where are you going with this question? I've never found it "impossible to be outside" from April to August". I guess i cannot relate, and therefore am unable to answer.

They do a lot of mosquito control now around the metro and we don't have to much of a problem. I put on the OFF in the backyard 5-10x a year, but I am out there pretty much every night.

I make it a point to be outside as much as possible (every day) from "April to August" and don't have a problem with the insects AT ALL.

Are you insect hyper-sensitive??

Yes, Dingler. We have to stay indoors all summuer long so the mosquitos don't devour us. There is a window of time between Aug 31 and Oct 1 when you can be outside, and then the bitter frostbite sets in.

Seriously, where do you come up with these questions?
