Our Japanese residents have been welcomed with open arms (EVENTHOSEWITHCAUCASIANWIVESORHUSBANDS,GOFIGURE)!! ! The children are gorgeous, intelligent, and well mannered. We here in Tupelo "kinda cotton to that"! The majority of us seem to favor good, honest, hard-working folk regardless of skin color or to whom they may be married.

Additionally, shopping opportunities in Tupelo may not be quite as diverse as those in Jackson, but there's certainly less fear involved in getting out of one's car to conduct that shopping after arriving at one's desitination. However, if one should yearn for the excitement of being so lucky as to enounter a possible mugger, purse snatcher, or a hi-jacker on any given day, Memphis, Tennessee is only 90 minutes away! Lots and lots and lots of great shopping there, though!
I'm not quite sure what I need to "think"?? about... As I stated in my post I'm originally from Mississippi, although not the Tupelo area, and I doubt the OP will face any real problems. I'm aware Toyota is putting a big plant near Tupelo and I'm sure the locals are happy about this as it will bring in new jobs, and I'm sure people aren't angry that there will be more Japanese people or something. I'll stand by my original assertion, however, that compared to Northern Virginia, OP is going to find that there are a lot less Asian restaurants, grocery stores, Asian churches, other people who speak her native language, etc. That in no way means I think Tupelo is not a nice place to live or that there's anything wrong with that -- it just means it will be an adjustment.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to bash my hometown, although I'm not offended. Jackson does have high crime -- I'm not much of a city person and would rather live in a small town personally. Again, just saying a small Southern town is going to be a big adjustment for OP. Hopefully she will come with an open mind and enjoy it.

I moved to Mississippi from So. California 10yrs ago and I was surprised at how tolerant people in the South are. From coastal MS to Central and Northern MS you will find nice people who just want neighbors who work hard, and keep their noses clean (no law breakers). I think anyone who moves here from a more Metro area will have some time for adjusting but you like me will find the relaxed atmosphere and the people a nice change from the hustle and rudeness of more Metro cities.
