Yes! Vicksburg has a magically wonderful history of women fixing-up old houses and making it better! (I'd pronounce "make it better" in the current glottal-fry 'Spunky Gal' way you hear in commercials, these days: "Mekk aaaat bodd-irrrrrr!!!")

This lucky lady found an adorable cottage to fix-up! Then, some local youths pitched-in, to give her a housewarming party she'd never forget! https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...body/29491251/

And who can forget the story of the Palm Beach Socialite, who moved to Vicksburg, and transformed a drab little brick ranch house, into a dazzling showplace overlooking the Mighty Mississippi, as a center for family togetherness (Spunkygal pronunciation: "Fom-il-eee tig-othirrr-nosss!")! http://www.vicksburgpost.com/2015/12...0-years-later/

And there are so many other ("oth-irrr") heart-warming renovation stories out of quaint old history-filled Vicksburg!

Mrs. Levitz's murder probably would have been solved if DNA testing had been available.

What are the pros and cons of living in Vicksburg?
I'm okay with the weather and love the idea of being near the river.
I like the idea of a small town with a good coffee shop, and a well stocked book store. I'd prefer to be able to walk to both from my home.
Night life to me is sitting outside listening to a live band.
I used to live in Atlanta and totally loved it, but this job in MS is too good to pass up.
I can see a lot of pros just cruising around the Internet, are there really no cons?
Thanks for your help!
Judy
As a living person who has lived in Vicksburg,I personally wouldn't live here. Jackson is completely ruined with crime and vicksburg really doesn't have much to hold except history. But maybe this is my personal opinion. Best of luck!

I know several professional type people who work in V'burg (not that kind of professional!). Most live in either Clinton or Madison. I recommend the Madison area.

I don't know how I missed this thread! I grew up an hour from Vicksburg on the Louisiana side of the river.

My best advice: Unless you absolutely have to have a small city, then live in Clinton and commute to Vicksburg, especially if you have kids. It may still be 30 to 35 miles or so, but at least it's countrified interstate rather than "The Perimeter at Rush Hour" type traffic. It's basically a "fairly big small town" with nothing to do - except gamble. Nightlife? It *sucks to high heaven*. Monroe, LA is more fun than Vicksburg - which believe me is really saying something (none of it good).

Clinton itself isn't super great, but it does seem to have a high quality education system that is reasonably well integrated. Potential bad side, especially if you're not an evangelical type. The community's dominated by Mississippi College, a Southern Baptist college of about 2000 students with a strongly religious administration and student body. So if that bothers you, you might want to spend a few extra bucks and 10 to 20 min per day of driving to be closer to Jackson's Fondren and Belhaven sections -- IF your politics leans more "progressive".
