Hi all,

There's a creek that meanders alongside Highway 61 between Rolling Fork and Vicksburg. Anyone know what it's called?

Thank you!

That's Deer Creek.

Not very straight, is it?

LOL. Not in the least! Just out of curiosity, is it a natural creek, or was it dug as flood control? I suppose something that winding almost has to be natural.

Thanks so much! I had looked online, but just hadn't been able to positively identify it..

I don't really know anything about it. Evidently I never lost the "let's go exploring" urge that captured my mind when I was 12. I still look at a creek and wonder where it goes and what I would need to do to explore it.

There were few creeks left unexplored when I finally left home at the age of 17. Then I explored the world!

I'm the same way about exploring. Sometimes I'll drive down a road just to see where it goes; this is the primary reason I love geocaching.

But if you're ever interested in finding the name of another creek in Mississippi, go to: Geocortex IMF Launch. Click to launch viewer, zoom in, and turn on the Hydrology -> NHD Named Streams layer. Gobs of interesting information on this map.

If you're outside (or inside) Mississippi you can use the USGS map at http://viewer.nationalmap.gov/viewer/

It's the modern version of the old paper USGS "Quad" maps. If a creek has any sort of official name it will be on one or both of these maps.

Both maps show the OP's creek as Deer Creek.
