Do you konw what kind of beef most of the steak houses, such as Does Eat Place, in the Delta use? Choice? Prime? Select? What about other great restaurants such as Nola's, Giardina's, Vinces, and other places. And here is a second question, what great restaurants do you recommend in the Delta? I love trying new places

The reason I ask, is because I worked in a couple steak places in Minnesota and it was very important to let the customers know that we served Prime and not Choice. I have lived in the Delta for over 3 years now, and been to some great steak restaurants. However, there is no talk about what category the beef falls in. I am not trying to be a foodie snob, I am just honestly curious since it was ingrained in me to ask this from my previous work experience.

Another reason I am curious, is because I seem to pay the same amount for a steak in the Delta as I do for a nicer restaurants in larger cities (where they emphasize their Prime beef). Which, I know I am paying for distribution, the 'seasoning' (yum), and the ambiance. But I just like to know for my own curiosity..

I think most of them will be choice cuts.

Prime is generally more tender and juicy , and has more taste due to it having more marbling and being a younger beef.

Choice isn't far behind but is is less tender, juicy, and flavorful. It is still a high quality cut especially if it is from the loin or rib areas.

Doe's uses choice I think. They prepare them in an oven with burners that shoot flames down allowing the drippings to fall in a pan below. This is poured over the steak when it is done.

One more thing. Doe's is more of a ramshackle dive kind of place than a nice steakhouse, but that's where some of the best food can be found. I wouldn't expect anything fancy if you go.

My late father-in-law loved going to Doe's. From his conversations with "Little Doe", the steaks came from Kroger. But I bet they were custom cut because I've never a steak that large in the meats section of a grocery store.

I also had a great steak at a restaurant in Cleveland after a Delta State basketball game. I can't remember the name of the place but it was in what looked like an old cotton gin.

If the Bourbon Mall (Bourbon, MS) ever re-opens, it is on par with Doe's plus they have live entertainment.

I ate at Does for the first time in 2005 and got a 1.5 lb T-bone, it was amazing. heading back there in April. I would be willing to bet that Doe's is prime beef. 27.95/lb for a t-bone is outrageous for choice beef. The price and quality dictate prime to me.

I think I have heard that they order their meat through Kroger also. But I am not sure how reliable my source was.

I haven't been to a steak restaurant in Cleveland, I will have to look into that!

I don't think the Bourbon Mall will re-open. Which is shame, because that place was a lot of fun! There are rumors that the owner of the Bourbon Mall is going to cook again in a very small setting in Leland.

I have had both Prime and Choice before, and Prime is more tender and juicy (YUM!). But I have been thinking most places around here use choice.

Going by price, I would definitely assume that Doe's uses prime beef. It would be interested to find out if they definitely use prime though. Because of their perfected cooking style, they very well could be using choice and just really know how to bring it to a prime level, therefore jack up the price. Which, it will sell regardless of the type of beef!

The fried tamales were awesome.

The place in Cleveland was easy to find. Drive from the college towards 61. Turn left about half way to 61. I want to say it was after some railroad tracks. The shrimp and grits were perfect.
