Hello! My husband and I are relocating to Starkville, MS this summer for jobs at Mississippi State University. We are in our early 20s and are looking for some more information about the Starkville area. We know it will more than likely be a culture shock for us, but we are excited for the opportunities that await us. And we both love hot weather.

~ Any recommendations on good places to live in the area? We are open to renting either an apartment, townhouse, or home, and we do have a dog.

~ Recommendations for places to eat?

~ What type of cultural experiences does Starkville have to offer?

Any other tips or advice would be great!

Just off campus, check the Cotton District along University Drive, which has apartments and townhouses for rent and several restaurants in the neighborhood. This is a charming area.

Just across from there is the Nash Street historic district which is also a charming street of modest cottages and bungalows.

Adjacent to downtown is Greensboro historic district which is a street of pretty homes that probably has some for rent.

Generally speaking, the main street of residential neighborhoods and subdivisions is South Montgomery. This is just a mile or so from campus, running south from town for several miles, and is mainly newer homes of all sizes, some apartment complexes also. This is also nice.

The Cotton District Arts Festival appears to be April 21; that would be a great chance to visit.

May be hard to get a hotel room, since that coincides with Super Bulldog Weekend.

Default Old Charleston Cottages in Starkville?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had any reviews/opinions/information about the Old Charleston Cottages in Starkville, MS. They look beautiful and quaint, but I can't find any online reviews of them. Any opinions? Also, does anyone know if they will allow pets?

Thanks for the help!

Default Condos/Townhouses

Any recommendations for condos or townhouses to look into buying/renting? Any to avoid?

Trulia.com lists several condos and townhouses for sale. Some are pricey and some cheaper....depends on your price point

For places to eat you need to go to Mugshots, Little Dewey, and A Taste of South America (Peruvian food). The university have a few cultural offering a year, but Starkville won't offer much. It is a pleasant little town though.
