As I drove through Mississippi this week just as we are approaching spring time, I can't help but be taken by a feeling that Mississippi is so blessed to be so green and spacious.

I happen to love the smaller things, such as driving through the residential neighborhoods of towns like Brookhaven. If those homes were in say, suburban Boston, the cottages would be selling for three quarters of a million dollars and millions for those mansions in Brookhaven. Such an elegant community, Brookhaven, yet largely unknown and it even has a charming and unpretentious downtown area.

Has anyone ever visited Cat Island or Horn Island off the coast? They say Horn Island has giant dunes and is just a 15 minute boat ride from Ocean Springs. In wonder why the state doesn't run a ferry to the island, say every 15 minutes.

They could market the area as the artsy and postcard perfect "Ocean Springs and Horn Island.". Ocean Springs is so beautiful, every bit as quaint as places like some of the gorgeous but sky-high expensive and crowded coastal towns in California. Same thing for spectacular "Bay St Louis and Cat Island"...stunning and entirely unique... and even moreso as a combination.

So glad that you enjoyed your drive through Mississippi! It is such a beautiful state. I think I appreciate it's beauty more since I don't live there anymore. Did you happen to make it to Natchez or Oxford? In my opinion, they are 2 of the best!!

I love Natchez too. I was on the Natchez trace and thinking the same thoughts as brickpatio. Mississippi is so green and pretty. I also love to stop at The Tomato Place on Highway 61 on my way to Natchez. I plan on visiting Cat Island this summer. I have a friend from out of state coming to vacation with me this summer. We are going to explore a lot of Mississippi.
