I fell in love with the Mississippi Gulf Coast before Katrina. I plan on returning. Can someone tell me how much it has changed since Katrina? Is it still worth going to visit?

The whole Mississippi coast has changed. All of the buildings along the coast were wiped out. Both bridges.(Biloxi/Ocean Springs and Bay St Louis/ Pass Christern) were demolished. Both new bridges recently reopened. All of the casinos have reopened. The further west you go, the worse it is. It will come back, but it will be a long time.
It is very much worth you while to see it now to just get an idea of what really happened. Come on down.

thats terrible. Thats what made Biloxi so unique. The old colonial houses on the coast with the big oak trees and the the brand new casinos near by. I dont know it might be to hard for me to handle the transition. The memories of before were so great I would hate to tarnish those memories now.

I think we heard about you at church yesterday. Are you the group that is bringing approximately 300 youth? Either way, get ready to sweat! We have lived here 8 years now. Everyone is very friendly and very appreciative of the help that continues to come in. We are all very grateful and blessed you are coming. Gnats are bad here,,,will eat you alive in early a.m. and early p.m. Bug spray does little good but to drown them. Bring your flip flops for when you're not working. Thanks again!

hello everybody, i am participating in work&travel programme and have recieved a job offer in mcdonalds at south MS for this summer with choice of city - Ocean Springs, Gautier and Moss Point. where do you recommend to go? where is most possible to find second non-qualified job for a person with ****ty english like me ) or maybe a qualified job for a summer period (a im sertified engineer in IT and airport security systems) i'm thinking to go to moss point, because it's population is mostly black and i was told that black people are more tolerate to other nationalities and i will not be offended for accent or something is it true??

No, don't assume black people will be more accepting in Moss Point. Of your three choices, I think Ocean Springs will probably be your best bet. Ocean Springs is closer to Biloxi and Gulfport and the people there are probably more used to people with foreign languages because of the tourist that pass though.

southernnaturelover, thanks! and what about aspects ov living? crime for example. City-data.com crime index is quite high - 558.8 (higher means more crime, U.S. average = 205.2) is close to Compton, CA - 660.9. where according to rumors - //www.city-data.com/forum/los-a...e-compton.html is very dangerous! but numbers don't describe situation sufficiently (hope i used last word right ) are there any street gangs in MS? what type of people is better to avoid?
