West Mobile is very nice...very clean, friendly city. I lived there for about 8 years and never had any problems. There's just not a lot to do there for young adults. The people are very nice and race relations are good even better than charlotte, nc where I live now. If I had a family, I would definitely consider going back.

There are some nice, safe, and community based neighborhoods in Mobile as well as great public school. It`s not fair to categorize a city or a group of people based on one encounter or what you see on the news.
