I'm really considering transferring to DSU next fall to get my Nutrition degree, and while I plan on visiting, I'm not quite sure when that will be, so I'm just trying to get in contact with as many DSU students, professors, faculty and alumni as possible.

I have a few questions about the school specifically and the area in general...

I have no doubt that it'll be a huge culture shock, especially with living in Montgomery County, MD (D.C Suburbs) my entire life, but I'm positive that it'll be a good shock...

My questions are below, and they are aimed more at current or past students, however some of them should be able to be answered by faculty, I would think.

Questions:

-How big of a "party" school is DSU?
-Know anyone in the Nutrition/Dietetics program? Any tips?
-One thing I should know before transferring?
-How are the dorms? Which dorm would you suggest?
-Is the food at Young Maudlin gross?
-If you could do one thing differently, what would you do?

I'll probably come up with more later, but this is it for now.

Thanks!

I am a DSU alumi who graduated 2 years ago and I loved my experience there (but hey, my home was only 8 miles away :-)
I was a Business major, but the overall experience was great. The teachers are very helpful, friendly and concerned about the student and their education.
Cleveland and the surrounding towns are laid back and slow paced, so if you are looking for a party every night, this may not be the school for you. Don't get me wrong, it is not in the sticks or anything, education comes first with them. Jackson, MS is 2 hours to the South of DSU and Memphis, TN is 2 hours to the North with a whole lot of interesting places to see and go to in between. I had scholarships to attend another school but chose DSU because they are about the business of teaching you, respecting you as an individual, providing great leadership skills and just my kind of school.
The food is great on campus with many other fast food places in Cleveland from burgers, chicken, pizza, Chinese, Mexican, Southern cooking and much more (love Catfish Cabin). Just don't expect a taxi service.
If you are serious about obtaining your degree, can easily adapt to an easy, laid back and slow place, then by all means PLEASE check them out, you wouldn't regret it. I am currently attending another college in Jackson (yep, obtaining my Master's) and I promise you, I MISS DSU and its instructors. The only reason I am attending another school is DSU does not have a Master's in Social Work program.
