I have been offered a job working for Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. I am a civilian so I will not be living in base housing. I will need to find an apartment and was wondering if anyone had advice on some good areas or complexes?

Preferably I'm looking for a two bedroom but would also consider a one bedroom apartment. Right not I live in Northern Mississippi so I understand that I'm not going to get the lower rent prices like in Northern MS on the coast. What I'm looking for is something convinient to work. I don't need to be right by the bay. In fact, I'd rather be more inland in case of storms or hurricanes. I'm a single woman in her upper 20's so I'm looking for something safe. Although that sounds silly because I'm sure no one wants to live in a dangerous neighborhood.... I'm not concerned with the school system because I don't have any kids.

If not Biloxi, do you think places in either D'lberville or Ocean Springs would be an easy commute to base? And I don't know if it's possible to get an apartment with heat, electricity and water for about $800.00 per month. That would be for at least a one bedroom but I'd like a two bedroom for about $800.00 (covering all utilities) if possible. Do you think $800.00 is a realistic allowance for the Biloxi area?

Thanks for your help and suggestions!

I don't know specific apartments. However, Biloxi itself has many new apartments and overall is very safe. There is no need to find complexes further out. You might look in the vicinity of Popps Ferry Rd, which runs from Pass Rd (south of Biloxi Bay) to north of the bay near the intersection with I-10 (Cedar Bluff, I believe). There are very nice neighborhoods of all types along this road both south and north of the bay. There is a ton of brand-new shopping all around the intersection I-10 and I-110 and a new mall is being built at that intersection, just to give you some idea where some of the newer parts of town are from retail perspective. As part of that construction, Popps Ferry Rd. will be extended over to I-110. Also, Pass Rd which runs parallel to the coastline is a fairly nice area particularly from the intersection with Popps Ferry Rd to the Gulfport city line. Presumably because of Katrina, there seem to be a lot of new-looking apartment complexes dotted evenly around Biloxi. There seems to be a lot of diversity, ranging from upscale bayside subdivisions to modest but pleasant neighborhoods from the 1950s to new apartment complexes and a mix of older and new retail. Personally I think this would be a wonderful place to live, with such variety (artsy and upscale downtown Ocean Springs; bustling downtown Biloxi near the Beau Rivage and Hard Rock; renovated downtown Gulfport; and elegant and scenic downtown Pass Christian and Bay St Louis; and miles of beachfront for walking, running, and sunbathing etc.
