I agree. I hate the drive down I-55 from Memphis to the JackTown metro to visit fam. I try to take backroads especially hwy 61 and 49 and the Natchez Trace if I have time.

Gotta love that Cajun feel to some places.

Although other parts of Mississippi suit my style.

The coast would be more creole than cajun. But pretty much the same thing.

Annie hear you say something like that, and he's gonna have a word with you.
And maybe even a word about you!

I know cajun and creole are different. I basically mean they are both French. You find more cajun around the lafayette area in lousiana. They descended from French Canadians who decided to leave after the British took over. The Mississippi coast has people who descend from original French settlers not exiled French Canadians. Who ever Annie is I hope they understand that. No offense meant. My family is from South Mississippi and a lot of them live in Louisiana now. so I am very familiar with the area. My wife's family is from North Mississippi and thus I live in Memphis but I am actually more comfortable with things related to South Mississippi and Louisiana. That being said GEAUX SAINTS AND GEAUX DAWGS.

Want to express my thanks to all the dedicated Mississippi posters for their enthusiastic and informative compositions about their state. Without such details I would have never have received the inside story about this interesting state and it's inhabitants.

I am especially interested in the wildlife which is indigenous to Mississippi. Thank you GG.

Can't wait to visit, and who knows, maybe even stay.

Merry Christmas to you all.

One thing I've noticed is you begin to appreciate Mississippi interstates when you experience the traffic in other places, even an hour outside the major cities etc. On I-55 from Memphis to Jackson you can put it on cruise and listen to talk radio for 3 hours, virtually undisturbed.

Alrighty here...
Firstly, creole isn't "French." Creole can mean nearly anything you want these days. I can't recall any exact French blood in my family but I can trace back to Cherokee and white blood, I consider myself Creole. The Cajuns never decided to leave, they were exiled. You're right about the original Florida parishes, not much Cajun influence. My family is strictly from Baton Rouge, Cajun Country, and New Orleans.

Who Dat!

You can do that anywhere outside of Southaven, Jackson, and the coast!

All of that makes the state so appealing.

Not-so-busy interstates? Unheard of!
