Hi. Me and my bf have been Researching southern MS for sometime to move to. Im seriously considering biloxi/gulfport area. Questions I have are....how are the nrighborhoods, diversity, etc..We are an interracial couple so want to make sure its a diverse city. Are there many "bad" areas? Because this is a touristy area, are there more jobs, better pay? I have seen houses for rent like 500-600 a month...are they this price bcuz of bad area or all housing are these prices?

Guess Im wanting some insight from actual people familiar with the area.

Any house or apartment for $500-$600 is going to be in a bad area (or have some issue(s)). Wages will likely be lower than you are used to, especially for entry-level tourist industry jobs. DO NOT MOVE without a job and/or several months of living expenses. Take a trip before moving. Being an interracial couple on the coast will likely not be much different than Indy.

The economy/availability of jobs on the coast will be less than Indy. For Mississippi, the coast is a growing area, but that is compared to the rest of the state, not the area you are coming from.

People do not come to the MS Coast to go to the beach, they come to go to casinos, so that is where your opportunities will be.

Again, DO NOT MOVE without a job and/or several months of living expenses

agree with viverlibre don't move without a job and being an interracial couple in Mississippi in general is not a problem. There are plenty of them.

I agree with the advice not to move until you have a job here. I also agree that a house or even an apartment to rent for $500 or $600 is not somewhere you will want to live. Have you visited the area before?

I am visiting in Feb. I have done sooo much research on all of the coast and other areas. I want culturely diverse and near ocean, but not sure about the hurricanes. MS was listed as #3 safest state from Natural disasters which is why i chose to move here.

To stay in a decent area in Biloxi/Gulfport you're probably going to spend at least $800 a month for an apartment.
