Rodney, MS is a ghost town. Somehow, that term, "Ghost town" has always attracted me. I've been to ghost towns all over the US. Some of my favorites are in New Mexico, but Rodney, MS can compete with the best of them.

There actually is a cannon ball lodged in the front wall of the local church. The video below tells the story pretty well, so I won't relate it here. I will, however, show you a picture:

It is just above and slightly to the right of the center window.

To find Rodney on your map, first find Port Gibson. Rodney is due South just a few miles.

This picture may not look familiar to you, but you may have seen it before. It is of Windsor Ruins, which is near Rodney, and was used in the film, "Raintree County", which starred Elizabeth Taylor.

Still hymnals in the church? Incredible. I liked the black Masonic lodge…Can almost imagine the people sitting in the church singing hymns, Masons assembling in the lodge. The images of the cemetery were mesmerizing.

I've seen photographs of the church with the cannon ball embedded in the wall and often thought that I'd like to visit that place. That there is anything left of Rodney, and that these old buildings are still in tact, is a miracle.

What a fascinating place and terrific video. Thanks for sharing!

The Windsor ruins is one of my favorite places, I wish the State would make more of an effort to preserve it, but I guess it is so remote there is not much chance of that.

Brave enigmatic Mississippi is akin to a piece of installation art. Exceptionally beautiful, but not always easy to look at. These old buildings have stories and secrets. It reminds me of the places I've stayed in Connecticut-kind of tattered, but uncommon because of all the extraordinary history behind it.

I'm looking forward to visiting one day soon.
