Gay people are the ones having their rights infringed on. Me marrying another guy and being treated like a HUMAN BEING does not infringe on you at all.
So, what do YOU think of a city passing a resolution "recognizing the role LGBT people play"?

I'd rather you all come into 2014, heck 1996 would be a step up.

They're hypocrites. They can't help but shout for 2nd amendment "rights" but not marriage equality.
They think it infringes on their freedom of religion or ruins the sanctity of marriage. Although the constitution thumpers skip over the part about separation of church and state and skip the fact that majority of marriages (these days) are ended in less than a decade.

There you go with the condescending remarks. Grow up. They don't "play" gay.
I don't "play" straight, I actually like women that that guy above me actually likes men.
Do you "play" to like women? Do you act like you enjoy the music you listen to? Do you act on City-Data about the way you feel? No.

My little cousin is gay (and bless his heart he is stuck in Vicksburg) and I remember when he was no more than 5 years old, I would show him my year book and ask him about the girls and he would always say "I like him." Needless to say he's been bullied and picked on many many times at school.

Love thy neighbor? Nah skip that part too.

And Annie, of course misses the whole game and point.

See, Annie, ya have to go back and read the actual press release issued by the city of Oxford. You know, the one referenced in the very beginning of this thread.

Quote:
Just in, verbatim:
Oxford, MS Unanimously Passes Pro-LGBT Resolution
Third Mississippi city to pass resolution recognizing the role LGBT people play in thriving communities
Did you catch that? Instead of quoting the whole press release, like I have to do for you, I just put quotation marks (that's what those two little marks are, Annie) around the part of the press release that I had quoted.
And I did that because I wanted to hear RC01's comments.
He might have something worthwhile and mature to say.

I think it's a nice sentiment, but that's about it. A city passing a resolution doesn't give me any sort of "special rights." It just means that the city government is stating, "We respect ALL people." It isn't hurting any people who are straight or infringing on their rights. It isn't giving me any extra rights or protection under the law. I think the point of the resolution is that the city is trying to show that they respect all people and don't agree with what the state of Mississippi is trying to do.

I'm sure you agree that gay people are playing.

LOL! One of the most prejudiced things I've seen in a while. That's the deal w/ prejudiced people, they don't even have a clue that they are. Might as well have said "some of my best friends are black/gay". Bull. Just more confirmation that I'm glad I left Mississippi. As progressive as Oxford is in some ways, it's still in the dark ages in many other ways.

Just what is prejudiced about the comment you quoted? That's that person's life experience and his/her thoughts seem like they are genuine and coming from a good place.

They assumed that gays are able to work more because they "can't" raise a family. Assuming you can't raise a family because you're gay is prejudice, not nearly a big deal i'd say, but it is pre-judging.

I think you misunderstand. The term "Recognizing the role LGBT people play" does not imply they are only playing, or pretending to be gay. It means "take part in".

In other words, "Recognizing the role LGBT people take part in". It also is no reference to their sexual "roles". It is to recognize their contributions to society, workforce, etc.
