Missippienne

They are called shotgun houses because they go straight back. If you shoot from the porch the bullet will go through the back door without hitting anything.

Clarksdale, like most Delta towns, claims to be the birthplace of the Blues. C'dale has the Shack Up Inn which are old shotgun houses turned into hotel rooms. Johnson sold his soul at the crossroads on a dirt road in Bolivar County not too far from Ruleville.

There is a Delta Historian housed at Delta State who has all that info. and sponsors tours on a regular basis. Too bad I cant recall his name...

Clarksdale also has Madidi's Restaurant: http://www.madidires.com/ Morgan Freeman's place, along with the Ground Zero Blues Club, also Morgan Freeman's place: http://www.groundzerobluesclub.com/

Tunica, with its casinos, about an hour south of Memphis, is a destination, with Sam's Town featuring concerts, and Beau Rivage in Biloxi, and Pearl River Resort with 2 casinos, each of the casinos has concerts by major artists...Michael Bolton, Cirque du Soleil, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban (coming to Beau Rivage) and many others. Go online and see. Enjoy!

I would guess the trip would take between 4.5 to 6 hours. I am not sure what types of hotel accomodations are there, but am sure it is easy to check online or simply by calling the restaurant. best of luck on your trip.

Thank you!! We plan on flying into New Orleans....the airfare is much better then Biloxi and can get a non stop.
from my airport in NJ
rent a car and drive over to the coast area for a day or two..then would love to go visit the delta area for a day or two..leaving me enough time to at least get in one full day & night in Nola

hello Silversurfer, I am new to this site. I live in Oxford and have a small condo within walking distance to the OM campus. I do not stay in motels around the area, but would guess you are right about cost as the school activities keep a premium on prices. To be honest I dont want to break any rules on this site but I think if there is an interest we can talk. Glad, you liked Oxford.

Wink Thru Alabama to the coast

Try to stop at Bellengrath Gardens near Mobile, fabulous gardens year round and interesting history. Gulf Shores is must see! In Bilox, be sure to eat at Schooners for an Oyster po-boy. If there are any golfers, this is paradise. The Bridges in Bay St Loius is beautiful and challenging. The Mississippi coast is coming back and a great place to vacation. Nice condo rentals are becoming available thru the internet.
Enjoy!!
