DH's company is moving to Jackson MS from Dallas TX. He has been offered a move to Jackson with a substantial pay raise. DS ( 17) starts his Senior year in August and the company has agreed to pay the cost for my husband to stay in and apartment and commute back home ever third weekend so that DS graduates with his friends. That's a HUGE compromise for any company. DS is not digging the thought of moving to MS with us despite the fact he hasn't shown any particular interest in the Colleges in Texas or any school period other thank Yeah I'm going to College.

I'm rambling but any advice for campus sour in MS are appreciated. His interest are computers gaming- music Asian studies and world history

For computers and engineering related studies, you should look at Mississippi State in Starkville, 2 hours from Jackson. For music, University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. For Asian studies, you should check those two schools as well as University of Mississippi in Oxford. In Jackson, he should check out Millsaps College, a small liberal arts college. They are frequently ranked among the 10 best colleges in the nation for the quality of their professors and the overall classroom experience.

You need to start setting up on campus visits for him at MSU and Ole Miss ASAP. If he is into Asian culture, there is a large Asian population at MSU, and ironically a large Texas population (last time I was on campus, I saw as many Texas tags as MS). I assuming the same is true of of Ole Miss. MSU may be more of a melting pot than Ole Miss, but he will be fine at either.

When you decide to buy in MS, do so in Madison or Gluckstadt.

Doesn't sound interested in school, sounds like I was. Just agreed so that I could shut my mom up for a couple weeks. Ended up in art school and dropped.

Can't say I blame your son. I would not be that excited moving from TX to the possibility of going to school in Mississippi either, but he's a minor so, he has no say...unless he stays in TX and goes to school there. Maybe that choice should be discussed. Moving from Dallas TX to Jackson MS is a downer anyway for a lot of transplants. I know it would be for me and my family, given we've lived in Dallas and I know Jackson well. Frankly I would never do it, unless the salary differential exceeded 40k. Never.
