Hello everyone I got a job offer from the Jackson Public Schools. Thinking about moving down to the Jackson Area. About me: 24 year old single white male from Pennsylvania looking for a one bedroom apartment not looking to spend more then 700.00 a month. Looking for something in a good area Heard that the cost of living in Mississippi is much cheaper then in PA.

You can find one bedroom apartments in some of the older apartment complexes built in the 1980s - in Ridgeland and Flowood starting at around $750 per month. Any lower than that and I think you would be getting into safety issues.

Both Ridgeland and Flowood and full of apartment complexes and both are very safe and nice areas. In Flowood, look up Reflection Point, which starts in the $700s - and in Ridgeland try Park Place or Pear Orchard apartments along Lake Harbour Rd.

If you're willing to go up to around $900/month, you can get into a newer complex. There are many of them in Flowood out Lakeland Drive (Hwy 25) and in Ridgeland near the intersection of Rice Rd and Old Canton Rd. The good thing about that Ridgeland location is proximity to the Reservoir and to the Natchez Trace bike trails.

Lastly, you can drive around the Belhaven neighborhood and look for for-rent signs. This is a beautiful historic neighborhood near downtown and one of the best places to live in Jackson. This area has everything from mansions to garage apartments and lots of medical students and college students live in this area. You would just have to drive around the look for something. The neighborhood immediately surrounds Belhaven University.

I would not consider any apartment complexes in the city limits of Jackson except in Belhaven, or some of the pricey apartment buildings downtown.

Mind me asking, but which side of Jackson will the school be on? Jackson is not huge in term of size, so you can practically live on any side of town. Check out Belhaven. They have nice 1 bedroom apts around Belhaven College/MS Baptist Hospital. You can also check out some apts south of Fortification Street, it's a lot of college students renting apartments from JSU in the area. If you enjoy a more quieter setting, stay north of Fortification Street. Also check out the Ridgeland/Old Canton Rd/Lake Harbour area but it's much further outside the city.
