Okay,

since August, I've been searching the web, and my dad's newspapers, for a reasonably priced, reasonably sized (2 bedrooms, one bathroom) apartment in this certain county, which is home to the fourth oldest newspaper in Mississippi, the Carrollton Conservative (which I have already applied to work for, and will soon take up work at my job as junior reporter), yet I can't find anything, not even in the classifieds of the three local papers, the Conservative, Winona Times, or Greenwood Commonwealth.

Fortunately, I found, and recently visited, an apartment that is availible in the seat of the next county over, Winona, but I still ache to live close to work in Carrollton, the home of the conservative, in the original building, which my family still owns (even though we let the Antiquities society clean up the place).

Now, can anyone, whether you're from the county or not, explain how a place with so many forclosed, for sale homes as Mississippi could have one county with not a single apartment for rent?

P. S, the sites I searched for a place for rent are:

Zillow,

Realtor.com,

Century 21,

realestate.gulflive.com,

realtystore.com

irenttoown.com.

P.P.S,

I didn't find any APARTMENTS, but I did find a few mobile homes, mostly in the Delta, none on or anywhere near U.S. Highway 82.

The mobile homes I saw were way, way in the country and were too big.

Perhaps internet usage in this county is 10 years behind the times, so expecting country good old boys to post on Zillow is asking a bit much?

Have you visited any local realtor offices?

Well, I thought they would have some sense to buy at least a classified in one of the local papers (my dad owns all three), but I didn't think about that. Good advice. As a matter of fact, I do know of and have the phone number of one local realtor (who, according to the Carroll County Development Association's website, is the only local realtor in the whole county), and I think I might call him.

I didn't just search the internet, I searched the three local papers (Winona Times, Conservative, Greenwood Commonwealth) for advertisements and/or classified listings, and I did drive around the three incorporated towns, but I didn't see any apartments that were available for rent anywhere. I also did not see any "for rent" or "room for rent" signs around the towns or any "For Rent" listings in the classifieds for any apartments that were specifically listed as in Carroll County or Carrollton (I found one for Vaiden, but you might as well be living in Greenwood, since Vaiden is so far away from Carrollton).

Thank you for the helpful advice, and I will talk to people around the county or to the realtor the next time I am up there.

I wonder also if they have a historic neighborhood association of some sorts. If so, you could call the president and ask her or him. They would have inside information. There are probably lots of property owners who would like to rent out some space, but only to professional or educated individuals who will take care of the place, pay on time, etc (and maybe they're afraid to advertise, etc).
