There is and old Victorian House on Church Street, in Myrtle, Ms. that is for Sale....I have been trying to find out about the history of Myrtle...this house is interesting...but I cannot find out much about the history of the town. My husband and I would like to move to Mississippi to retire, and currently have our home on the market...Where, is not so important, as we have traveled in Ms.and do want to move there. He is retired, I am not yet. Can anyone enlighten me about this home, I wrote to the Realtor, and got nothing in response. The population is 400 plus, so someone must know something about this home.....if they live in Myrtle. My curiosiity is killing me...Thanks for any information!

I'd bet if you'd contact the Myrtle library someone could tell you - librarians have the most amazing references to explore. You can always go to the county courthouse and pull the land sales deed and probably do some tracking from there. Sounds like a fun adventure! In a town that small, I would imagine one stop at wherever the locals hang or eat lunch would tell you almost anything you wanted to know. The chances of finding anyone from Myrtle on this forum are indeed slim, but I guess stranger things have happened!

Good ideas Sam. Also Sherrie, try calling the realtor instead of writing. Any real estate company in the area should be able to give you some kind of information. I recently looked at a house in Poplarville, and the real estate agent there told me they could show anything that was available, not just the properties listed with their agency. Good luck!

So true, Gretchenfur...and so many people are not aware that any MLS realtor can show any house listed with any company with the MLS, and will contact independents for a showing...so Sherrie, find yourself another realtor who is interested in selling a home! And do let us know the story behind the house...I love a good old house!

SherrieB, the history of Myrtle, I know a little. Myrtle was formed in Union County as a joint land area between 2 counties in 1870. This was after the war where some residents from the area formed the New Albany Greys in 1861. There was a previous indian trading post named Alberson. My hobby is guitar playing and got interested in civil war era songs, so along came a little history. Library is a great idea. I hope this is useful.

We too love stories on old houses...I will try to write the library....a good suggestion. we live in New Mexico, and traveled thruough Northern Mississippi last year on Vacation...want to sell here, and buy there..don't know if I want to buy and clean and furnish anything that is 3 stories, but the place looked really interesting....figure it must have belonged to a prominent family at one time...so the mystery begins.....keep thinking I'd like to start a "Wedding House" so therefore the interest in a possible victorian....really liked Aberdeen also, but it appears that Taxes are higher there.....Thanks for the input.. Sherrie

Sherrie I am not sure if we are talking about the same house but I think that it used to be owned by my ex-brother-in-law. If it is the same house, we are talking gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous. Wrap around front porch, high ceilings. The works. House has been completely remodeled. I will see what I can find out from them.

hello I live just on a street adjacent to Church street. I am not sure how long ago you posted your question, and i don't know much about it, but i will try my best to find something out for you. I will take a picture and describe the neighborhood and people surrounding you. I think it is great that you want to move to MS to retire. I love it here. Not much to do in a small town like Myrtle, but Memphis, Tn is an hour away and Tupelo, MS is 30 miles away. I am looking to buy a house. Myrtle is my home town. I am 21 and live with my mother. We have been paying rent most of my life and I think that it is better to buy. So I was looking for a house to buy in Myrtle when I say your post. email me back if you are still interested. Who is the realtor? MODERATOR: No names, good or bad, on the open forum, please...take that info to direct message if it must be relayed. Thanks!

I may know them, I do know the librarian. A very nice, smart lady who would be glad to give me any information that I need.

Emily

I bet that I am not that only one who would love to see a photo of this interesting house.
