Does anyone knows what is the fastest growing area in Mississippi, due to economy and development?

That'd be Southaven and DeSoto county.

I just spent the weekend in DeSoto County. It's really booming up there. A new outlet mall is under construction there. There's also a lot of land for sale, so it's not slowing down anytime soon. I believe another gold mine will be when I-269 is completed and US 78 is officially designated as I-22.

You mean up by Tupelo? NE Mississippi is relatively well off compared to much of the state, and is almost unrecognizable compared with NW Mississippi.

You mean the I-22/269 designation? 269 will form a ring around the eastern half of the Memphis metro, from where I-69 ends at I-55 to US 51 at Millington. In MS, it will intersect 78/I-22 at Byhalia near the DeSoto/Marshall County line. The I-22 designation may not happen until 269 is finished, and when Alabama finishes the interchange with I-65 in Birmingham. I read recently that MDOT applied to have its portion of 78 from US 45 at Tupelo to the Alabama border to be I-22.

Tunica County developed mighty fast for a few years after the casinos came.

Let's not forget about the areas around Jackson, and Lamar County near Hattiesburg.

Developed in Casino development only. The rest of the county offers next to nothing and it only measures around 10,000 people with an 11% unemployment rate. It's still in the Delta and has a pretty bleak future.

He's right. Besides the casinos it developed nothing else.

Tunica has the Greentech auto plant and has an industrial mega-site near the line where the new interstate crosses over from DeSoto into Tunica County. That interstate will eventually go down almost to Greenville, then cross over the river and down towards Houston I believe.

My theory is that the Tunica casinos won't be the future of the area, but instead major industries, due to such a huge supply of nice land, access to a strong work force in DeSoto County and Memphis, access to the interstate as well as Memphis airport and Fed Ex, and low operating costs. Tunica County will in effect be an extension of DeSoto County, but with an endless supply of land ready-made for large industries.
