We have been house/property hunting for quite sometime.. mostly in Florida since it's where we are now - so we are used to the southern heat and bugs.. and the occasional hurricane (will trade occasional hurricane for certain annual snow, every day of the week)

Since neither of us will be job hunting (disabled vet and wife) and schools are not an issue (grown kids) Mississippi has become part of the search. We don't want to be south of I-10 and unless it's a state law to have home owners insurance, we would opt for a home owners warranty if insurance is unreasonable.

The area we are looking at is north east of Kiln - Up Vidalia road a ways.. an almost straight shot into Gulf Port. I have not done that drive yet but it looks to be around half an hour - which isn't too far to the coast for outings.

We are most concerned with being close enough to medical (military would be preferable *Keesler AFB*) and having a decent, reliable internet connection. Also, being out in the country, we are concerned that there may not be any social circles to join (non church tyvm)

I'm sort of an artsy, old hippie type and the spouse is a volunteer type. Does this area sound like a good fit for aspiring old farts?

That area is close to Bay St Louis, which is full of old artsy, hippie types. Living in the country and coming into town to go out to eat and do a little shopping ... and just enjoy the scenery, should be a nice lifestyle. New Orleans is close also which is a big plus.

Don't forget to check out Bay St Louis - I mean right in town!
MY wife has been bugging me for a couple of years to sell out and move there.

Two of my must have's for property are a well for drinking water and enough land to grow food on.. probably not going to find either of those south of I-10. Along the gulf coast, I want to be far enough inland that hurricanes don't require evacuation.. btdt .. don't like it.

The Kiln and BSL are not bad choices, but don't forget that Keesler and the VA are in Biloxi, so it might be a bit of a trip to get to them. It's not the end of the world; all you would need to do is hop on the 10 to the 110 and take the East Gate in. I-10 to 110 to 90 is probably just as fast to the VA if you need to go there.

Ocean Spring has the rich hippies, but I'm sure things get cheaper as you head north of D'Iberville.
