"It" being, unfortunately, a shooting on a college campus.

I really believe there are such things as copycat crimes. Angry, mentally unstable people see others gaining a few minutes of infamy due to their crimes and decide to do the same before they die, usually by their own hand.

The murdered professor's name was Ethan Schmidt.

That is my thinking as well. I don't want to blame the media for this but there is no doubt that the shooters are relishing the opportunity to get some attention, probably for the first time in their pathetic lives.

love triangle, the shooter killed his "cheating" girlfriend down in Gautier then went to DSU, called in the murder down there and shot Schmidt. No copy catting, just a guy that snapped because his girlfriend was(or at least he thought) cheating on him with one of his coworkers. If anything good can be said about it, no students were harmed and the campus has been cleared.

If what you are saying is true, then I assume that the shooter was a DSU student who drove down to Gautier (I guess where the girlfriend lived), killed her and then drove back up to Cleveland to DSU. Then, still in a rage over the situation with his girlfriend, decided to target a random professor on the DSU campus and killed him. If so, pretty bizarre.

no he was another professor at DSU. He is from Greenville, I know of him but really never knew him. He graduated in 87 or 88 from Greenville Christian School.

He must have sped up and down the highways to get from Gautier to here.

According to reports, he called in the Gautier murder after he got to DSU and just minutes before committing the second murder.

The killing at Delta State was the first time I heard Cleveland mentioned on the national news. Before the Internet, before the 24-hour-news-cycle, I wonder if this story would have made it past Mississippi.

Prof. Schmidt's widow teaches my grandnephew.
