I currently live in Memphis and am considering a move south for the obvious reasons as I start to raise my young family. That being said, I know nothing about the various neighborhoods/subdivisions. What areas should I look in that would provide a good environment for my kids with other young couples in the area? Thanks

Default Hernando

I just saw the movie Mississippi Burning and I know it was filmed in Hernando. It was based on a true story but where did the actual event take place?

Depends upon whether you are looking for an older, tree-lined street neighborhood or a newer subdivision...

Check out Preston Hollow neighborhood. Close to Suncoast Parkway (direct to Tampa), 1/2 acre lots, very quiet (car goes by once every 20 min or so). WIth the economy the way it is, you can find affordable homes. Deed restrictions are actually a good thing to have in this area - trust me!

Virtually all of Hernando fits your description. Most of the newer subdivisions are in the vicinity of Wal Mart just east of the Hernando exit...

I live in an older subdivision of modest homes in Hernando with the big trees & overall is quite area. Two houses have sold on our street in the last couple of weeks.
Personally, I would not want to live east side of I-55. It is larger & newer houses, but has about 75% of the traffic also.
I am about 1/2 mile from the court house square & you can find houses from under $100K to more than $225K within a few blocks.
There is one vacant rental on out street that rents for just under $1,000.

Try Bridgetown. It's in Nesbit, MS, so not far from Hernando at all. They have security that drives through the neighborhood, and it's only two guys that live there that I know of that do it. If you're cleaning out your car at some odd hour and they see you, they will ask you what you're doing, but they're just making sure you're not getting robbed! They have two lakes, Sunset and Sunrise. There's fishing on both, a beach on Sunset, two parks one of which are at the beach on Sunset Lake, lots of trees, and it's a VERY calm, quiet and beautiful neighborhood. They have 4th of July events and such also. There is a gas station by one of the entrances called Bridgetown Market that carries usual household things you may need if you don't feel like driving to the store. There's a lady that works in there named Dana who is one of the friendliest people you will ever meet. She'll remember you even if you move and never come in anymore. I'd rate the neighborhood 10 out of 10. I love it here! It's very safe, I seriously don't even lock my door. There is one issue though, a sewer tends to back up pretty often around the Victoria Rd area by Sunrise Lake, right next to Tahoe Cv, but as long as you don't live on those two coves, you really won't even notice it.

I have a cousin who lives with his family in a subdivision southwest of Hernando with its own airstrip. Each house has its own hangar. My cousin uses his as a workshop. God bless.
