Hello, me and my fiance are both looking to purchase our first home by fall of next year. Can anyone give us any direction in regards to Jackson, Gulfport and Clarksdale. We don't want to live out in the boonies (so to speak). Our general questions revolve around crime rating, diversity of community & activities, employment and weather.

All help will be greatly welcomed.

Seems like employment would be a key driver in the decision of where to locate, so what type of employment would you be looking for?

We're both mechanics in the military..however, I also am a fitness specialist and experience administrative assistant.

I would guess Clarksdale might be pretty limited when it comes to jobs. Have you thought about the Golden Triangle or Meridian areas (just thinking about the military mechanic angle, but not sure what type of maintenance experience (aircraft, vehicle, etc.) you have. Obviously the coast would be good too.

Yeah. Job first. Then the house. Mississippi has a very high unemployment rate. On the other hand we - frankly - have a very low qualification rate. So your experience will count.

BOL!

I would try the coast before Jackson. Being military, I'm sure you are already aware of the opportunities in cities that house bases. Also, there is the offshore industry to consider. They're always looking for employees and mechanics make excellent money offshore. As for fitness... well, MS isn't really known for being fit and trim . But we do have some nice gyms if you look around.
