So anyone whose from the north, especially the northeast...Be warned that there no "southern hospitality" here...More like "southern hostility"...So other than a visit to family or friends...Do yourselves a favour...Save yourself some disappointment and don't move here!!! Cause as for me, I intend on leaving thus dump asap...Now I heard (and seen) that Madison and Ridgeland are better looking areas...As far as I've seen, the people there seem to at least be a bit more progressive, overall...So perhaps it is better over there, though the cost of living may be a bit higher...But you do get what you pay for, after all...However as far as Canton goes...In my opinion, look elsewhere and save yourself the stress, money, distress and disappointment...Trust me, with the 15 months of hell that I've gone through...I have since enough to tell all, that you will glad you did..

Question, why did you choose to live in Canton? Just a few miles away in Gluckstadt it is like an entire different country.

In addition to poor schools, high rates of poverty and other issues, Canton makes the news occasionally for crooked politics and municipal fraud/mismanagement.

I have to say that I married a man whose family was from Canton and they are very well-known and they are awful people. The reason I say they’re awful people is that they were so enabling and so petty and vindictive and they had so many skeletons in their closet, and they treated people like trash behind their back. They were very polite and seemed sweet, but the gossiping was extremely emotionally abusive, and most were very judgmental people who had no right to be judgemental. My experience with them and I am from the south has led me to just really dislike most of Mississippi because I have found that while most people are OK sharing gossip, sadly they don’t go the extra mile to sort through what might be true and what might not be true, that they’re lazy and it seems easier for them to believe the negative no matter how far-fetched it seems, but if it happens to them -Hell will freeze over , things will blow up and you will be punished!!!! But them doing it to everyone else it’s not that big of a deal. There’s so many backwards thinking and hypocritical chaos that It’s insane and it will show you a new level of hatred that you never knew existed in a form that is very subtle polite seeming , but very petty and hurtful.

But that’s just one person opinion..

Lake Caroline is 5 or 10 minutes outside Canton and it's extremely nice.

Yes! The bolded is a definite Madison County trait. While Madison County natives are completely incapable of relaying even the most basic information (maybe because that would involve telling the truth - even a simple truth, like "Today is Wednesday"), they are masters at false narratives. Whole cliques of people, over decades, craft those narratives. Epic-scale myths about people seem to develop, completely divorced from reality. And that's a pity, because the reality, if you can freeze-it-in-time (Jackson Jambalaya: Her Finest Hour), before the natives have a chance to transmogrify it into a grotesque-&-destructive myth, can be pretty colorful.
