Google phrases like, "worst states to live in," "most people in poverty," "highest teen birthrate," "states with poor economies," "states with highest population loss," etc., MS will likely be at the top of most of the returns.

I'll take a crack at answering your questions below:

Could you tell me if Mississippi is a good place to move to? For most people NO.

Any places to avoid? Most of the state.

Good school districts? Several, but housing is going to be noticeably more expensive, for the most part.

How's the job market? Bad, especially for low skill workers, there is opportunity, but the pay is very low.
Truth.

I wouldn't move to Mississippi for a million bucks.

To each his own, but from someone who has traveled quite a few places, Mississippi isn't that bad and a million bucks would go a long way here. The key is to move to the right place in Mississippi. For example, Clarksdale might not be a solid move, but Tupelo might. Greenville may be a stretch, but Olive Branch may be a fit.

Yeah, if you don't like The Triad (you said you didn't) and you fancy yourself a screenwriter, you won't like Mississippi. But we'll never know, since no one has actually offered you a million bucks to move here. You seem to believe a million is some sort of lofty prize, so I am left wondering if you would really turn it down........
(We'll never know)

FYI: There are 45,771 millionaire households in Mississippi. That's actually last among states. There are probably a lot more millionaires who began in Mississippi and moved out to find their fortune. People like Shepard Smith, and tons of entertainers.....

The article says Mississippi is 51st among the states. How can that be when there are only 50 states? Wait ... seems like someone in authority mentioned a few years ago there were 57 states ....

I think DC is counted in that. What with it being a Federal District.

Mississippi usually falls within those parameters because of the counties in the Delta.

You just are not going to believe what those jobs pay around here.
The most important and relevant comment so far. Yes, the cost of living is low, but so is the pay. You won't gain anything.

Exactly.

The majority of Mississippi is fine. Very average. The Delta brings the whole state down as far as statewide statistics, so looking at rankings based on arbitrary lines is flawed. People should be looking at metro areas individually, with SOME additional information based on statewide stats. Is there any real booming city right now? Not really, but there are pockets of good, solid growth, like the Gulfport-Biloxi area, Hattiesburg, Madison, Golden Triangle and Desoto County.

You would think most educated people would understand this VERY common sensible idea. I'm not talking about people out of state, they have a reason to not know. I'm talking about our own residents.
