Baseball player Bryce Harper signed with Philadelphia for 330M over 13 years. He's 27.

He turned down 310M for 12 years with San Francisco.
Why?
California taxes.
The California tax load required San Francisco to offer "well over 330M" for 12 years to compete.

Soak the rich doesn't work. It drives tax paying people away. Harper is one example.

When you see moving vans leaving CA, real estate prices drop, and salaries coming down, then you can blame taxes. But notice CA just gets more crowded and more expensive.

Yep. This is why low tax states like Mississippi host far more world class cities, far more world class research universities, far more major corporate headquarters, and are the home of far more innovation and cultural influence than the high tax states such as California, New York, Massachusetts, Illinois, etc

This is the same phenomena you see in any super rich city. It becomes liberal over time due to the decadence. The rich people stay because they can afford it, the poor people stay but just get poorer. The middle class leaves because they can't afford it but refuse to be poor. Most of the time the middle class end up in suburbs but once it hits a breaking point, they leave the area altogether. That is beginning to happen now in California.

This is not due to tax. California has a bunch of money because of all the natural resources and economy it has. This happened long, long ago and is nothing the government can or cannot do about that. High taxes come after the fact, due again to sustained decadence. It's the natural order of things.

It's laughable that you make a comparison of CA to MS and then say the difference is due to taxes. I mean, it's got nothing to do with the film industry does it?

California is a wonderful place. I lived there for a number of years and I think everyone should go take a look. San Francisco, I'm telling you, is unequaled in America. Nothing like it. My daughter was born in San Diego in a hospital that does nothing but birth babies and care for them. It was wonderful!
But the expense is outrageous. By the time you make enough money to afford that 800 square foot cottage in San Diego, you are going to be paying 30% or more toward taxes. No kidding!
And regulations!? My friend was pulled over for a brake light failure. No big deal? Wrong! State law required him to take his car to a mechanic and have the entire brake system inspected. Didn't matter that he had a valid sticker - he had to pay to have it all inspected all over again.
People who can leave are leaving.

California is like a beautiful woman, she can be dumb as dirt, treat everyone like crap, put little effort into her job or relationships, yet she is the most popular person everywhere she goes.

Not once in any measurement period has CA's population fallen.

Don't send me any more links to crap articles about people moving to Oregon and Idaho. Here are the numbers. The rest of it is just crap you say to make yourself feel better.

Except there is a lot of substance to California...it is a global center of innovation and creativity and commerce and pop culture....and is also one of our leading agricultural and oil producing states (nearly a tenth of US oil production).
I don't get the right wing obsession with bashing California. If it were a sovereign nation it would have the fifth largest economy in the world. Many right wingers actually sound like they want the people of California to fail and suffer.
