Hi my name is matt and I'm moving to Saucier, MS in July. On July 5th my Greyhound bus leaves Mesa, AZ and I arrive on Monday in Gulfport. I will be living with my best friend who works at the beau rivage casino.

I had a set of question to anyone that can answer.

1. Whats life like in the Gulfport area?

2. Is saucier a good place to live?

3. Whats there to do for fun?

4. Is there a lot of retail and restaurant jobs available?

Hi Matt, I live on the coast but not in Gulfport. There are good and bad areas of Gulfport, mostly good. From what I know, Saucier is more "country" while Gulfport is more "city." Although if you come from a real city I don't think you'll agree! There are plenty of restaurant jobs, especially in the casinos. I don't think you'll have any problem getting your foot in the door. There used to be a lot of great bars/nightclubs in Gulfport (back when I wasn't too old to have fun), but I'm actually not sure what did or didn't survive Katrina. Hopefully someone else who lives in the area will give you more specifics.

Howdy Matt!

I hope I can answer some of your questions from my point of view.

1. Whats life like in the Gulfport area?

Katrina did ALOT of damage obviously, but in many ways things haven't changed in Gulfport. It's a very laid back, sleepy kind of city. If you want excitement, the Casinos are the usual way to get it, and you can't beat their seafood buffets full of crab and shrimp -I recommend the Palace & Beau Rivage casino buffets. Edgewater mall in nearby Biloxi is a bit boring, but at least they have a mall..lol. There is also an outlet mall on Hwy 49 that has a few good stores in it. I don't know what your into, but most of the good bars are in the casinos, and there is only one gay bar called Just Us on Division street in Biloxi. If you want to eat and shop at some more interesting places I suggest you go to the nearby city Ocean Springs. They have some real lively places their, and it is a very progressive/alternative kind of place. They have a small but great sushi place called Fuze, and a Spanish tapas place called Mosaic among it's many restaurants.

2. Is saucier a good place to live?

Saucier is a basically a rural community. Lots of forest and pine trees, lots of privacy depending on where you live. It's a quiet, country kind of place. Crime is very low, and most people their mind their business and expect you to do the same. Of course this depends on where you live in Saucier..trailer park living is different than house living..lol...but you get my drift.

3. Whats there to do for fun?

Casinos, shopping, restaurants, the beach. If your idea of fun is eating out and drinking, then you should be fine. If your idea of fun is doing new and exciting things..your gonna be bored...lol.

4. Is there a lot of retail and restaurant jobs available?

Casinos are your best best. Non-casino restaurant work is harder to get simply because it's kind of a word of mouth thing..a friend recommends a friend. However fast food places and gas stations are always hiring. As are the casinos of course. Get a job in casino buffets if you want free food..lol.

I hope this helped you out Matt, let me know if you have any other questions or private message me with them. If you can deal with a very laid back, easy going lifestyle...filled with fattening food and lots of drinking by the locals, then you should be ok here..lol. Take care.
