Articles like this one ( https://www.theguardian.com/society/...ssippi-chicago ) deal with the presence of this gang in Mississippi , however they don't really get into the specifics of how and why they got so big in your all's state ...

Anyone know of any reasons why this so ? I'm asking because I plan on doing several documentaries and TV shows concerning the subject of white gangsters and criminals in the future and I've also considered the possibility of ( perhaps ) hanging out with the Royals as an investigative journalist type for a while in order to obtain some relevant information .

Mainly due to the changing nature of prisons and lessor degree jails in the state. Mississippi's street organizations are tied to Chicago in the black community and that extends into the prison. This had major influence on the white criminal nature in the prison as some people have ties to Chicago as well. Some of the whites wanted to join the GDN but was refused due to a outdated concept so they got network with the Royals. Around the mid 80s, they started expand in the prison then into the streets. The Latin Kings formed in similar fashion later on since the whites couldn't join the VLN in prison. Royals took off faster due to the appeal & history of the org back in Chicago.
Royals have branches in the gulf coast cities, Hattiesburg, Jackson metro, Tupelo, & Southaven.

I would say that field of journalism is heavily covered except not in the mid south as much nor white street orgs here.

You may get better information on the reddit MS forums. I think the group that posts here is older and professional, most information we would likely have is highly speculative and likely based on third and fourth hand reports.

I'm the only one who's knowledgeable on this topic in the MS threads and doubt there will be any responses from MS reddit on this subject.

As with any job, if you can't handle it the right way, then you shouldn't be doing the job. In this case, getting gangs to police the prison population isn't the right way. Prison is punishment for a crime by using confinement and separation from the general public, not being terrorized, beaten, and stabbed 10 times by violent gangs who have been given the authority to do so by the warden.

People would be outraged if it were guards doing the beating, stabbing, and terrorizing.

Wilkinson County, MS has a population of 9,878.
The prison at Woodville has a capacity of 900. It is filled. That means dang near 10% of the population of the county is in jail.

I mean to be fair, the 900 inmates in that facility are probably not all from Wilkinson County.

But then again I don't really know how the prisons are "stocked" -- so you might be right. Geez.

... Which leads to an interesting question:
When census is taken, the inmates are counted, too. Surely, that's true. So are inmates counted as part of the population of the county? Seems like they would have no other way of doing it, but you never know....

Prisoners are counted as part of the location they are in. The prisoners at Parchman are counted as part of the Sunflower county census.
