The one-lane bridge used in the movie was open until about 30 years or so ago, it was near Greenwood (Sidon) and was interesting crossing it!

I remember that song every year this day.

This morning I was thinking of it and wondered if I was the only one in a ten mile radius who did. These days, of course, most aren't old enough. But around here, those few that are were likely on another continent speaking a different language in '67.

This post is a link to civilization.

Fantastic #1 hit song in 1967 & great movie. Some people think it is based on a true story. ?

in a good way...it was one of those "ear-worm" songs i remember.
only 2 seconds into the first guitar chords bring back every-single-little-bit of it.
now, of course, we are working on Baby Shark.

"Ode to Billy Joe" is a Southern Gothic novel contained within an exquisite gen of a song, that has timeless appeal.

One of the best ballads ever.
Bobbie Gentry is rumored to live in Mississippi, but if she does she is not recognized and no longer goes by her stage name.
She also wrote "Fancy", which was a monster hit for Reba McEntire.

Listener, although her bio states she is from "Chickasaw County, MS" she mostly grew up (until early teens) in Greenwood. There are still a few people who remember her from back then. The last I heard, she lives near Memphis (obviously that could be in the Desoto County area).

Periodically, the Commonwealth will run an article about her and she is often mentioned when old timers start talking about "back then."
