I may be moving to Leland/ Greenville for about 2 months, is there any place there dedicated to running where people won't look at you like you are crazy if you go for a morning or afternoon run?

I watched the video in the link you provided. The story says they have problems with people driving on the trail. What kind of simple minded idiot would look at that trail and think it is a road. It is narrow, as a walking/biking trail would be, and it has signs designating it as a walking/biking trail. SMH

This is at least part of the reason we can't have anything nice in the SIPP. A few like to mess it up for the rest of us and are too dumb to care.

No. People in Mississippi do not understand why someone would be running -- they will most likely be looking behind you to figure out who/what you are running from.

Same with picking up trash, I've actually been stopped by the police who questioned me asking "If I was OK" while I was out picking up trash trying to make my neighborhood look a little better.

You should be just sitting around smoking, drinking, or eating until you can no longer breath. That's the Mississippi way.

In the interest of accuracy, this is exaggerated. People walk or run here, but probably not as much as some other places. Greenville wouldn't have a million dollar walking trail if they didn't.

We have more than our share of big ole boys and girls here though.

I grew up in Mississippi, and he's not really exaggerating though, especially for the delta. That reality is extremely sad. In the more educated and affluent parts of the state running is more common place. I looked at the link, so a trail that is 1.7 miles long cost 1 million dollars? Seems very expensive for such a short trail. I'll check it out and get a feel for it.

A better statement would have been "No. People in the delta do not understand why someone would be running".

Just speaking on my own experiences. The entirety of Mississippi does not feel that way, although more may feel that way than many other places. I see people walk/run all the time and do so myself.

Maybe it's my area.

You must live in south Mississippi near Hattiesburg or the coast. I use to run on the Long Leaf Trace in Hattiesburg all time as a student at USM. The southern part of the state near the coast is like a different state.

I live in Senatobia. Usually I see people in my neighborhood walking or running everyday, and frequently on Main Street as well. There is a community college in town, so that probably contributes too.
