I think it should be taken precautiously with state to state statistical rankings. History, politics, geography, & economics played serious roles in our " last in line" position. Many easily can look back during the heyday of the agriculture industry in this country when the Sipp was in the top 10 economically but it wasn't 50 states around at that time. As the cliches goes, times have change & march forward.

The most meaningful stats will always be our progress report card. Always open to advice & strategies from neighbors of course.

Politics: Tate Reeves & Jim Hood are the most popular choices ; I'm not particularly fond of it but perhaps Robert Fisher will pull a victory. Heck , Valeshia Williams would make an interesting governor.

Mississippi's Republicans seem intent on propagating the state's banana republic status:

- preserving state flag... absurd in this day and time. And it can't, cannot... be good for business.

- passing legislation that actually enshrines into law legalized discrimination against Mississippians who are LGBT. Also not good for business as it reminds everyone that it's still 1962 for Mississippi Republicans.

- passing legislation that openly protects Republican donors in the... meat field... to protect Mississippians from very dangerous plants. Again, banana r...

- refusing to be alone with women in the work place per Billy Graham. Are they aware how much they sound Exactly like the ayatollahs in Iran...

- reforming the schools by adding.... like 5 charter schools. Is there another state with less competition in the education sector. Monopolies are favored in all banana republics the world over, because that's how politicians get their cut.

Are the Democrats better, No. But for god's sake, they all must do better...

Everything you said correct. The Democrats aren't much better. At this point I'll vote for anyone besides Tate Reeves.

Get real:
*Do "Republicans", refuse to be alone with women in the work place".... No. One minor candidate does. And he won't win.

*From 1876 until 1992 (116 years) there was an unbroken string of Democrat governors. Since 1992 there have been 4 governors and 3 of them have been Republicans. And yet, somehow, those three are to be blamed for your feeling that Mississippi is a banana republic.

JUCOs and JUCO sports is one of the few things Mississippi has gotten right. I didn't notice this on your list earlier when I agree with it. If something needs to change, it's the number of out-of-state players they bring in, only to export them back out to out-of-state schools.
Currently Mississippi JUCOs are limited to four out of state players out of a fifty five man roster.

JUCO athletic programs are complete money pits, but they boost enrollment which, in turn, brings in more money from the state. Most rural JUCOs have an extremely limited FTE as it is. A football team boosts the FTE by 55 students. An athletic depatrment can raise FTE by up to 200 students. In an institution that has probably less than 1000 FTE..........that makes a difference.

This is a good list about Republicans, but then you say Democrats in this state are no better. Can you generate a similar list of bad things Dems have done recently in this state?

"Recently", they have mostly been kicked out of office. Can't do much if the voters have "sent you to the house".

As usual you bring nothing to a political conversation besides showing people you're a typical Republican shill

I am a Republican shill. So I accept your accusation.

I pointed out that Democrat legislators could not have done anything recently because they have all been voted out of office. Seemed like a reasonable point at the time, but if you would like to provide a list of recent Democrat contributions, I promise I will not respond.
