If you want to talk about agendas and axes to grind, you should respond to the two people I replied to.

But, you actually agree with them, so you come after me (even though your point is axes to grind, NOT the actual issue that this thread WAS 100% ABOUT - did you notice the title and the police murder??).

That's ok, it's expected in this day and age. But I will definitely continue to call you and the others out.

Of all the factors to consider for relocation, internet comments? Really?

The ramblings of some stupid losers with nothing better to do is going to weigh in that heavily on where you might live?

I have experienced anti white racism exactly ONCE. That was in 1963 when I went into the service, and that act of racism was immediately counterbalanced by an act of kindness by some one who witnessed it.

And since then .... nothing.

Well, it was asked of the OP what likely threats he was concerned about specifically. Maybe we should let him answer before assuming that he's not simply grinding an axe.

So how racist against whites is southern MS? I need to know before a possible move, thanks.
The main reverse racism I observed against whites in the Deep South is in sports. The stereotype is that whites are slow. A "dual threat" quarterback is usually code for a fast black guy. Brian Bosworth was blunt about it in his book "The Boz". There are even white coaches who condone the stereotype (behind the scenes) like Barry Switzer. It's usually not stated out in the open, but as a Native American I know this stereotype exists. Personally, I don't agree with the stereotype. Sports should be all-inclusive.

However, Mississippi had the reputation of still being somewhat segregated relative to other southern states. I found the modern Florida Panhandle to be really mellow with very little racial tension (in contrast to rural Arizona of the 70s and 80s). But I had white co-workers tell me Mississippi was still somewhat behind the other states in terms of race relations - meaning it still has one of the few remaining pockets of white racism. For example, there are segregation academies throughout the state which were started after segregation laws ended. The goal was to "price out" black students and keep the white students separate with private schools. It's still like that in some ways. But overall, Mississippi's racial tension seems to have faded compared to the 1960s.

Sadly, this is one of those thread titles where we are going to get people from out of the region to contribute their social and political agenda (i.e. nonsense about mass shootings).
OP - please don't base your perception of coastal MS on social media (as you referenced). Coastal MS tends to be much more mellow on these type of issues and you won't have any more problem than anywhere else in the country. Perhaps less so.

Newflash for participants in this thread: The OP is very specific in his question. If you don't or haven't lived in MS, then the thread is probably not for you.

MS is like most other places in that there are attitudes here and there within the state, but just because you have crossed a state line somewhere doesn't create within you any particular attitude.

Coastal MS is far removed from The Delta, NW Mississippi, NE Mississippi or Jackson. Most of us live in areas that are racially very diverse. As opposed to creating an intolerant climate, it seems to me that our climate is generally more tolerant than a state which is not 60/40, White/Black. There are simply too many people who are not members of your race, and if you want to run around growling at the other race then you are going to be one busy dude!

He's seemingly abandoned this thread, so I'm guessing he didn't get the reaction he was hoping for. It happens.
