Hi, I appreciate constructive feedback and insights. I am a bit lost as both places have such strong pros and cons and unfortunately more cons it seems .

I am looking at a 20 mile radius around Hammond and towards NOLO to move to with my 10yr old son, or to the Mississippi Coast (Waveland to Gulfport).

Reasons are to be closest to job opportunities and somewhat affordable rentals. I have a BA and three years pre-med and am easily employable. I prefer to keep homeschooling my son if possible.

I work from home part-time but would like to work out of the house two to three days a week for some socialization. I am finding many affordable rentals within a 20 mile radius to Hammond and some okay rentals around the Gulfport area.

I want to make an educated choice.

My concerns are;

Job opportunities
Safe, somewhat affordable housing if possible (prefer a little cabin, home, cottage or mobile home).

Thank you so much!

Speaking only for MS Gulf Coast. There are very few truly dangerous/unsafe areas, Moss Point is considered the "seedy" city, but I've been there dozens of times and never felt unsafe. I would look at some of the "off the beaten path" areas between Gulfport and Waveland (since it sounds like you need to be close to NOLA). I like Long Beach and the Pass, but I'm don't have detailed knowledge of either. BSL would likely be the most expensive place to live in that area?

I personally would not live in Hammond. Go to Mandeville if you want Louisiana, or Gulfport/Biloxi/Ocean Springs if you want Mississippi. I suggest visiting both.

If you are working in NOLA, I'd go Mandeville/Covington area. Just makes better sense. Hammond and Gulfport are sort of separate from NOLA. You could probably pull of a commute from Waveland/Bay St. Louis but I wouldn't do it unless I REALLY loved the area. Like I said, I'd visit it first. Some people fall in love with Bay St. Louis and never leave.
