Very disturbing, but it seems to always be happening.

A plea from penitentiary: 'Please try to help us'
Contraband phone exposes Mississippi crisis

Then, in a steady voice that competed against a cacophony of rowdy conversations and a fuzzy signal, he urgently described to a complete stranger the turmoil he said existed on the inside. Some inmates needed medical attention, he said.
"Mold everywhere, rats everywhere," said the inmate.

You should have anticipated this response. Seriously, prison conditions need to be improved nationally, no state is immune that I know of, it's not an exclusive MS issue.

Appreciate your sincere re-evalation of the widespread issue. Hey, I have no respect for someone that committed a violent crime, but many in prison have simply made mistakes in life, maybe guilty of dealing a small quantity of drugs. Non-violent crimes.
I don't think boycott is the answer as the issue is too widespread and the impact is meaningless. MS politicians don't give a damn what MO citizens think, tourism isn't that significant, and MO politicians don't give a damn what MS citizens think. Simply enough - vote, write your congressman, become active in prison reform. Trump signed the "first step act" in 2019 in regards to federal prisons. That's "the first step". Let's see it apply to all state prisons. Also sentencing reform. Trust the system.

Stop locking people up for drug related offenses. Yes Parchman has outlived its usefulness but the state isn't going to spend money to open a new prison.

It depends. If they incarcerated for merely smoking a joint or having a miniman supply of marijuana, there's really no need for incarceration. Just fine them as long as it's illegal. But it they're selling drugs, even including marijuana, and especially to kids, lock'em up for an extended period. They're scum.

Clearly, prisoners should be treated humanely and should be fed decently. The prisons should be as clean as possible, but I suspect most of the time they're dirty because of the inmates treatment of the facilities themselves. If they want to be treated well, then they should be acting well.

They're not in the Ritz Carlton.
