Please list the prosperous areas in MS that don't have good public schools (Starkville, Byrum, Ridgeland?). In the 'Sip, for the foreseeable future, public schools will remain important as there are too few high paying jobs in most of the state to pay for private schools and maintain a nice, consumer driven lifestyle and save for retirement.

Below are the highest per capita counties in the state and top-ranked high schools. There are a lot of similarities in both lists, in MS, the best indicator of a prosperous community is good public schools.

I appreciate how optimistic you are, but not understanding issues and not accepting reality prevents one from seeing the real issues.

Brandon
Hernando
Olive Branch

Southaven
Ridgeland
Flowood
Coastal Cities (lumped together)
Diamondhead
Pass Christian
Ocean Springs
Bay St Louis
Gulfport

I understand all your talking points. You sound like my dad.

The richest people in the state send their kids to Prep. They don’t care about the public schools. It’s over. The only thing public schools truly matter about is property value, and that’s all perception. It’s just 1990s thinking all the way around. I know they matter to people in MS, I never denied that. I reject the notion that they signify any kind of real prosperity - they simply do not. If anything they signify a united small town, which is truly what is much more important.

At the end of the day, Mississippi doesn’t need to do what allegedly what works in Mississippi. Because compared to other states, that crap doesn’t work.

Has anyone ever driven thru Laurel on the interstate? Some of the most depressing, impoverished scenery I've ever seen. Literally, third world level poverty on display for all to see.

Laurel is a hole.

Google street view of the interstate through Laurel looks like a perfectly typical small town to me. Actually you see nothing but trees most of the way.

Meaningless. Street view cannot replace seeing with your own eyes.

Haha, you don't say? I thought watching a TV show or reading on the 'net would make someone an expert!

All this negative talk about Laurel. Every town has it's good and bad points...
every town! Try and find the positive in something, it's a lot more fun. Hopefully
the positive for me will be photographing/videoing some trains in a new location?
That works for me!

Railfan? You may want to consider Hattiesburg, just down the road. CSX & NS lines cross there.

So driving through on the interstate you feel provided you with a comprehensive assessment of the entire town? Yeah, you're definitely an expert.

Have you been there? I'd venture to say no.

Stalking me again?
