Hi! I'm researching places to live. Honest appraisals would be appreciated.

Do you need a car to live there? Is it relatively safe? Is there any nature scene? I love the heat/humidity, so that's not a factor. Any and all info is welcomed -- whatever you can think of.

Thanks! -- John

The biggest con would be hurricanes. As you move away from downtown, many houses are built on stilts to prevent flooding due to storm surges. And you'll notice houses are widely separated, because a bunch of houses that used to be there are gone, thanks to Katrina. But that was 15 years ago...

If you can put that out of your mind, BSL can be a nice beach town. The old downtown area claims to be above flood stage, meaning you don't need extra flood insurance. If you're South of the tracks you're always walkable to the beach. Unless you live in the old section, I doubt you can survive without a car, but even then I'm not sure there is a supermarket in the old town area.

Very safe.

Nature is gonna be water oriented. You can enjoy St Louis Bay.
