Any information on Vicksburg would be wonderful. I have two children 13 & 14. Just how difficult is it to fit in. I love learning new cultures and think new cultures are great for the children to learn as well. I would like to know how the schools are there as well. Please & Thank You!

Also limit on animals ect.

Just general info I guess would be great. How humid, what the bugs are like, if alligators ever show up ect.

Hey, I hope you make it to our fair city.

I didn't go to high school here but my husband did. Like any small town, it's what you make of it. We've got two publich high schools and a few private ones. The schools are about average I guess, depends on where you are moving from. I went to a small high school in another state and found that small schools are good because it's easy to be a big fish. the people here are pretty warm but can be wary of Yankees. However, with all the army Corps people running around, we've got a lot of Yankees.

I love it here. It can get awful hot and humid in the summer but Mississippi winters are the best, we get flowers in wintertime! We're goign through a big of a revitalization, so things are starting to happen here again.

As for pet restrictions, I don't think we have any. If you live in the county, you can have anything you want!

Send your kids to the school you have researched and feel best about(go and visit or talk to people who have recently graduated) and get involved with local groups. Shop downtown and befriend local owners. Set up loans with local bankers. Ask for advice on which church, or whatever your choice of worship house to try. If your chidren play sports or dance get them involved and get involved yourself with the other parents. New adults in Vicksburg make a lot of friends through their childrens' friends' parents. Basic advice: Whatever group, in whatever context, you are a part of (work, worship, neighborhood) be sure and the extra mile to get involved.

You will hear about the local click of people who run the town. The click exists, but they are for the most part good people and good friends to each other. That being said, that click is not the only one in town. There may not be a lot to do in town but if you make friends with those YOU "click" with, you will find people create things to do. Just because there aren't a lot of public places set up for locals to go and be entertained, doesn't mean the residents stay at home and do nothing. And trust me, the good times created my friends and family's friends could most definitely compete with the times I have spent in bigger places.

Local click? I disagree on the issue that there good people. It was the local click that ruined this town in the first place. I never associatated with them nor went to school with them. All they did was keep to keep competitve businesss out and now look what's happen here the local click destroyed this town. Mind you this town has turned me off for a long time. Most my friends have moved away from here. Now the town has lost its only cinema and I'm please to know that reality has crept in. But sorry the clicks are a major turn off. I hear the clicks turned off corporations who want to come here.

The reasons corporations are turned off by Vicksburg is the lack of a willing (not able) work force. The movie theatre needed to close, the only things keeping that mall alive are the anchors. People left just dropped their kids off without any supervision and they destroyed what was left of that junkie theatre. The size of the town also keeps retail corporations, it's not big enough to support big dept stores or even a target with Jackson being so close. It has nothing to do with an inner click of people. It has to do with factors that we cant control and lazy people who would rather sit around on wellfare.

There is SO much truth to this statement. The work ethic in our city is deplorable for the most part, however, you can go to businesses such as McAlisters & GAP Outlet and find out that good workers are out there, you just have to cull through a lot to find them.

On another note, we now have another movie theater in the mall and it has been upgraded significantly!! We are pleased to have it available. The mall has also put into place an ordinance that anyone under 16 years (I believe this is the correct age) MUST be accompanied by an adult on Friday & Saturday evenings after 6:00 p.m.!!! This is such a good thing! It's bad that its necessary but its a good thing nonetheless.

The WalMart Supercenter is currently being completely remodeled which has been much needed.
