Hello!

Looking to relocate soon from Florida. Will try to be short as possible but looking in the southern Mississippi areas. Prefer low crime rates, rural (I have horses) BUT must also have hard wired internet (cable or fiber) due to my work. While I don't mind occasional street flooding, I don't want to move anywhere where I have to worry about floods hitting the roof of my house. Would also like to stay more southern in hopes of staying away from the tornadoes!

I have in-laws in Meridian and while the rural areas there are pretty, the crime rate is so high!

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

Go to Bay St Louis, and take Hwy 603 North through the town marked "Kiln" - it's hardly a town at all. It's part of Hancock County, which boasts Stennis Space Center.
That's where I would start if I had your requirements. I have driven the area many times; looks fine to me. I would be very surprised if any amount of real crime had found the area or had much interest in it. Bay St Louis to Kiln is about 15 miles.

I visited Kiln on a trip along the gulf coast, when I was living in Alabama 20 years ago. It is right near the Pearl River, a boater and fishing paradise. There is a development called Diamondhead, with Hawaii sounding street names adjacent to Kiln. Many homes in Kiln, especially those near water, are built on piers where the ground level is an open garage / carport, along with a utility room or storage room. Stairs lead to the upper level where the main living area is. Flooding is possible in the event of a Hurricane - Katrina hit that area very hard. Kiln is not far from Slidell, LA which has all the shopping and services you would find in any busy suburb. New Orleans is slightly less than a 1 hour drive.

I can see where the Pearl River might have been pushed upstream and caused damage. Actually, Katrina damage could be seen as far as Hattiesburg.

My thought for our horse owner was some of the pasture lands north of Kiln. Really pretty up through there.
