I could easily name five dislikes and five things I liked about every place I've lived so far. I'm wondering if people in Mississippi would share their likes/dislikes about the state?

Right now, I'd have to put tornado-dodging at the top of my "don't-like" list. It's been a tough week in North Mississippi!

When I lived there, I liked the abundance of natural areas, uncrowded highways, great BBQ, low cost of living, mild winters, town festivals, and quaint small towns.

I didn't like the fleas and ticks, intense heat in late summer, backward politics, and a pervasive sense of apathy.

I have to say that for the most part, I like the people. I think we may have originated the phrase "southern hospitality". I know some people here won't agree with me, but I think if you make an effort to be friendly people will respond.

I hate the mosquitoes as well as the fleas and ticks. Sometimes the heat bothers me, but I'd rather be hot than cold.

Other than those things, I agree with everything blueridgemama said.

I've lived in Mississippi for 23 years, and I recently moved to Los Angeles to finish my grad degree. But compared to what people think is good "city" living, I would take Mississippi any day. Out here, I have lived in the best of the best, but even in the best areas, there's the worst area down the block. California is overly populated with homeless people and people who are mentally ill. But, home (MS) we don't have a lot of homeless people, but we do have poverty. But some of the people who the census would deem as poor in the state of Mississippi, would be deemed in the middle class in cali because there far betta' off. Other than that, Mississippi is my home and I love it. Every time i visit home, I see construction going up all over the place. And the price of living you can't beat!

town that hasn't grown
narrow minded clicks
small town living is real boring
gossip who cares?
a town that doesn't have a cinema. Vicksburg has regressed backward instead of forward. I've traveled to places in Europe that are more foward thinking.
