I want to see them make it snow in Natchez so that Lacey and her man can go ice skating on The River!

I just read that since 2011, from late October to January, Hallmark has televised Christmas movies nearly 24 hours a day, seven days a week. These Christmas movies are outrageously popular. Well behaved, attractive players of the opposite sex meet in sumptuous settings. They fall in love, overcome a few teeny-tiny obstacles and become engaged beneath the town's huge Christmas tree! Sometimes in front of a cozy fireplace. Estranged family members are reunited and old friends become reacquainted. Everyone is cheerful and merry.

I confess that I am a closet Hallmark Christmas movie watcher. Natchez is the perfect setting for such a film.

This should increase the volume of tourists that visit Natchez each year. Now more than ever Americans are craving this.

And there's almost always a cute dog and delicious Christmas cookies.
And almost all of them are filmed in Canada. There are two ways you can tell.
1. By the American flags.
2. Teryl Rothery is in the cast.

Isn't there a good chance the protagonist will be a humble man such as a fireman and the antagonist usually a rich jerk who shows his true colors by being mean to a pet or poor widow?

Yes, and everyone has that attractive but bland look, like the models in the old Sears catalogs.

And all players with chiseled abs, even the dog and poor widow!

"Viking Mississippi, the newest vessel by Viking River Cruises is due to arrive in Natchez on Sunday at 8:00 a.m. The launch of the Viking Mississippi is the first time Viking has offered a cruise ship in North America and the first on the Mississippi River, according to a press release issued jointly by Visit Natchez and the City of Natchez this afternoon." - Natchez Democrat dated 17 August 2022.

From what I've heard the City of Natchez is deliriously happy. I worry about the environmental impact this will have on the river and the City of Natchez. Hope I am wrong because Natchez is a unique city.

How can you have any nastier water than one of the biggest rivers in the world? Just being realistic. What can a cruise ship really add? Over half of the U.S. storm runoff runs through this channel.

And if you're talking about erosion or something, again, you're talking about one of the most powerful water sources in the world. It's going to do what it wants.

True enough, I suppose.

But have you seen the famous "blue" Danube? Wouldn't want to drink that water, either!
A cruise ship like that will have plenty of traffic. A lot of them will be curious Europeans but there will be a lot of Americans, too. We stayed at a B&B in Natchez and most of our fellow guests were Europeans. There is an endless curiosity about the old south.

There are times many years when the river is just too high, too fast and too dangerous. I've seen it during those times. That is a LOT of water!

Can't argue with any of that. I'm inclined to catastrophize based on the scope of environmental problems we're faced with here. Thanks.

Some sections of the Mississippi offer a temporary home to migrating waterfowl, diving ducks, turtles...My concern also is that the islands, sandbars along the upper part, and all along the river will be compromised. I am not a field biologist or an environmentalist so my knowledge is confined within limits. Most of California's estuarine wetlands are gone.

Thank you though for putting the issue into perspective. One Viking River Cruise ship probably won't decimate entire populations of wildlife. The revenue will be welcomed!
