Please tell me about life in Olive Branch.

What are the apartment prices like?

Who are the major employers?

What is the commute time to eastern Memphis/Umem area on an average day?

Thanks!

I am not sure about life in Olive Branch but I am in that area least once a week. It is suburban in my opinion. I am not sure about the apartment prices. I would go to Apartments.com - Free Nationwide Apartment Search with the Most Visual Rental Listings Online. for that. You could google "olive branch MS and employers" to get a list of companies. Its one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S and safe from what I hear fom coworkers and friends who live there. Your commute in my opinion would be most likely 30 minutes minimum. Depending on where in Olive Branch you live you could take 78 but there are alot of lights. Or you could take Germantown road to the interstate... or go down 302 to I-55...either way its alot of traffic during peak hours.

I really wanted to learn what Mississipians have to say. What about it?

Even if you live in another part of Desoto co. please let me know what you think.

What are the apartment prices like?

Who are the major employers?

What is the commute time to eastern Memphis in good weather and traffic?

Thanks!

I like OB even though I don't actually live there. I am close enough to have a phone number with an OB exchange and the city limit line is less than 100 feet from my back yard.

In OB? Don't know. I don't think there are any "major" employers in OB. You are close to the FedEx headquarters though.

It depends on where in OB you live and where in east Memphis you are going. It could range from 2 minutes to 30 minutes.

Thanks Robert_J. I have heard that FedEx Ground has a facility there. Do they also have their major offices there? Or is that in Memphis proper.

Do you have any idea what the apt prices or quality is like? I mean are there some decent places? Or is it mostly houses?

I appreciate any heads up you care to provide.

I live in OB. It's like a bedroom community to Memphis. The town itself is pretty small, consisting of a small folksy "downtown". This is surrounded by housing developments and a few commercial developments (Wallmart, Home Depot, resteraunts, etc).

Olive Branch really exploded ten years ago or so and was one of the fastest growing communities of the U.S. It's slowed down only slightly but you will have your choice of reasonably priced housing. Because of the explosive growth some commercial ammenities have yet to catch up (have to go to Memphis or SouthHaven to do any decent shopping, or go see a movie).

Olive Branch has a highway running through it, 78, which in theory will be an interstate but TN seems content on it running right into the middle of Memphis traffic, so it's easy and quick access to Memphis until you hit all the truck traffic and lights at the border. But yoiu can also access Memphis by going north 5 miles to Germantown or cut over west to Southaven to interstate 55 and get to downtown Memphis.

SInce it is a bedroom community, their is no large industry to speek of, although there is a large fedex distribution facility and some other warehouses. Olive Branch also has a small regional airport. However, the biggest employers are probably wallmart and the city of Olive Branch itself. Most residents, naturally, work in Memphis.

As Mississippi goes, Olive Branch and Desoto County is said to be one of the most prosperous in the state, with the best schools. I like Olive Branch myself, mostly because it's like night and day from Memphis as far as crime, political problems, etc, go. The housing very cheap and you get alot for your money, and if you live in the southern fringes you can get a quiet, rural, living experience.

There are only three apartment complexes that you would want to stay in: Annandale which is on Hacks Cross, we lived there when we first moved here and were really happy with the apartment and the management. That was almost 7 years ago so it may be different now. Plantation and The Vineyard which are run by the same company. We stayed at The Vineyard while our house was being built and we hated it (annandale didn't have anything available). We gave our notice to move out to one girl and then she quit and they kept our deposit and said they didn't get our notice. I can't remember what we paid at either place...

FedEx opened something new down here but I don't know what they do. It is on 305 I believe. I know Budweiser has something in OB off Hacks Cross. There is actually a good many warehouse type business off Hacks. The place that makes the wood w/ the plastic in it is also over there (Trex maybe the name).
