Coming over on 1st October to New Orleans - for a few days - then driving to Memphis. Want to travel Highway 61 and visit off the beaten track places for blues music. Not the high tourist stuff although intend to stay a few days in Clarksdale and final day in Mephis before flying home.
would welcome any ideas on where to stay and where to visit. or any travel books that might be available there. Comfort and all mod cons NOT a priority. Just want to find the 'forgotten'small towns where entertainment might be sitting on a porch singing the blues - or is that all a dream to far?
Check out Po'Monkeys lounge in Merigold, about 30 miles south of Clarksdale on Highway 61. It's closer to being an authentic jook joint than any other place I know of. Good timing for your visit- the heat and humidity should be relenting by then.
