Is it because of pines, or because Scotland doesn't get cold enough in winter to make things go dormant?

Someone moved here from Ireland to go to school once commented to me how surprised they were when they first came to visit - everything was so lush and green, apparently not what they expected. I've never been back to Ireland tho I'd love to go, it's supposedly my ancestral home. Our surname comes from Strongbow, apparently for our ancestor's help invading Scotland in 1172. Unfortunately he didn't follow that whole thing about not coveting they neighbors wife and so was cast out from his lands for making time with his lord's wife. LOTS of irish and scots in this country, many down here. We're related to the McLellands, too, the family cemetary is fairly near here. Never was able to find out if we're connected to the one of civil war fame, though.

Anyway, I never had any real desire to go to England but I always wanted to see Ireland and Scotland. Always been partial to redheaded women, now I'm getting too old to care...

The trees go bare here in the winter, which kinda sucks. Have to get the pergola done on the deck soon or I won't be able to use the hot tub - no place to hang roman blinds and no leaves left on the trees to hide my behind!

Them deer look like American Elk lol. Not quite buffalo (Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo...) but mighty big!

Very nice pics. I think you got best of both worlds, I'm honestly not sure why you'd leave. Has the economy slowed there as well? I expected the economy in Scotland to be heated up by all the activity that was going on in Ireland.

I think i'll love it there, its beautiful and i've found places that i actually like.
The house isn't going to be sold we want to have the best of both worlds. Property market is expensive here and desirable so to sell would be a big mistake.

Those are red deer, very popular creatures to hunt here by American hunters and other foreigners.

The economy has hit bad but many sectors haven't been effected like medical, automotive, IT.

We moved to TN from the MS Gulf Coast in 2005. We have always loved the Smoky Mtn area of TN, and have travelled here 17 times in 22 years.

We still love the MS Gulf Coast, have family there, and travel back to visit. If I were to live anywhere in MS, it would be the Gulf Coast.

But, our hearts are in TN, have been for a long time before we moved here, and we can't envision returning to MS permanently. Not because of MS but because of believing we were meant to be in TN.

Sometimes you just know where you're meant to be. I for one think that's a great feeling.

We know where we want to be...it's just going to take a little time making that move. Seems it was easier to just up and move when the kids were little....now we have 3 teenagers and a 7 yr old. Nothing like deciding to move across three states and just doing it then....lol

My job relocated me to MS from TN a few years ago. I should've stayed in TN. We were much, much happier there and have had a difficult time fitting in down here. Most of the people that I know that were born here love it, but that's the thing -- if you are not a native, or married to a native, you will never be fully accepted in a lot of this state --- except maybe on the coast.
